Celebrating a First, Remembering a Second… October 13th

I would need to look at my journal or calendar to get a clue of what I did last year on October 13. Some days since his passing March, 10,2021 stick in my mind along with what I did or who I was with. But last year in the ebb and flow of grief and the foggy numbness I don’t have a clear recollection of October 13.

As I approached October 13 this second year on which would have been Kens 59th Birthday , I sifted through photos, letters hand written to me and some journal notes. Smiling and laughing and thanking God for Kens life and time with me and our family. As I held his shirt close to my heart and then folded it neatly along with a few silk ties I was filled with peace and deep appreciation for Kens life and death. He knew where he was going and although sad to be leaving so soon let me know that he was looking forward to being with Jesus and not having to work so hard at this life anymore. And that he would not get any older! True Ken perspective and truth.

As I sifted through some trinkets and his wallet that still has the $2 bill his mother gave him as a teenager along with handwritten scripture notes and track I was filled with intense appreciation and joy that I got to share life with Ken for 34 years. And Although he is absent his memory, humor and passion for God lives on through others.

This second year of Kens absence on his Birthday reminded me of how incredibly God has gifted me with through Kens life and continues to beyond his death. This year my heart is filled with wonderful memories, gratitude and a sense of Peace that truly surpasses my understanding.

So very thankful and in awe of God’s provision of my furry friend Kippy who shares Kens birthday. October 13th a day to remember, celebrate and be grateful.
